About Us

Objectives of MALA

The objects of the Association are as follows:
1. To unite all persons and organizations engaged in library, archives, documentation and information work or interested in the promotion of these services.
2. To encourage the establishment and development of libraries, archives, documentation and information centers in Malawi and to promote the administration thereof.
3. To promote the library profession by conducting courses aimed at improving the quality of professional activities. 4. To encourage the furtherance of recruitment, training and education of libraries, archives, documentalists and information services provisions as laid down by the profession.
5. To advise Government and organizations on the adherence to acceptable minimum standards of library and information services provisions as laid down by the profession.
6. To serve as the official mouthpiece for its members on issues pertaining to the profession.
7. To simulate an awareness of the importance of libraries, archives, documentation and information centers to all fields of activities and to act as a public relations organization on all matters relating to libraries, archives, documentation and information centers in Malawi.
8. To promote resource sharing among the Library related organizations, work hand in hand with library and other associations within and outside the country and exchange information through electronic links, visits, conferences, workshops and publications.
9. To promote and encourage bibliography activities and research.
10. To secure representation on public and private bodies where such representation is required.
11. To liaise with the Malawi Government on issues relating to legislation affecting library and information provision in the country.
12. To extend the influence of the Association by establishing branches and specialized groups.
13. To undertake any lawful activities which will further the above mentioned objectives, such as the organization of meetings, conferences, workshops and visits and the publication of journals, papers and reports.
